Rewriting my CV

As I have just started my first season as a company member, I had to draft a simple programme profile and answer some questions. Comparing a programme profile and a blog profile, a programme profile definitely focuses more on my achievements as a dancer whereas a blog profile focuses on me as a person in relation to the blog content. For instance, it is me as a university student who will be diving into the exploration of my Practice. Furthermore, a blog profile is much more personal as it is written in the 1st person point of view.

My Programme Profile:
Theresa started learning ballet at a young age and was inspired by very passionate teachers who made her fall in love with dance. She pursued dance in School of The Arts, Singapore and City Ballet Academy (Singapore) thereafter, Elmhurst Ballet School (England). As a student, she got the chance to perform in various classical ballets and contemporary works including PaquitaSleeping Beauty, David Binetly’s Hobson’s Choice and Wayne McGregor’s Entity. While in Singapore and England, Theresa also had experiences choreographing both contemporary and classical works on her peers.

My blog profile is written in the sub-header of my blog.

Writing these made me think of how I should present myself and how I would like myself to be seen by others. I think presenting how you want to be seen as is very important because sometimes that's how miscommunication occurs, and as a dancer, the way I portray myself to an audience and to my colleagues is crucial. There is only so much effort someone will put in when getting to know you, and the rest of it is about how you show and present yourself. The way one should present themselves also depends on the platform and the people they are with. For this, I'm presenting myself with words and it is to my peers and professors.

  1. Hello.

I love the point you've made here about someone only putting so much effort in to get to know you! This is something I hadn't considered when considering how to present myself in a professional way, especially online when you only pick your brightest or most 'successful' moments to share.

I began thinking about this in regards to my essay and whether or not it is proving detrimental to some performers.

  2. Interesting to read your two bio's side by side. You are right, they are quite different! I think your explanation of why you are portraying yourself in different lights makes total sense. Thank you for sharing!
